Georgetown Real Estate

Georgetown has a vibrant cultural life, punching well above its weight for a small town.  The city is home to the picturesque campus of the highly regarded Southwestern University, the oldest college in Texas, and the college plays an important role in attracting speakers to Georgetown.  The Historic Square (voted the most beautiful in Texas), surrounding the grand old county courthouse, plays host to restaurants, coffee shops, cafes and the acclaimed Palace Theatre.  The Square is also home to the Williamson Museum and now the Georgetown Art Center and a center for the ‘sense of place’ Georgetown has, hosting the Red Poppy Festival each spring and the Christmas Stroll each winter. In 1977, the Williamson County Courthouse Historical District was actually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Besides all of the cultural attractions, Georgetown residents take advantage of an outdoor life that is second to none.  There are nine golf courses to choose from in the Georgetown area.  And Georgetown’s hike and bike trail, which is mostly paved all the way from the gorgeous San Gabriel River park to the dam that creates Lake Georgetown, are beautiful. Then there’s Lake Georgetown itself.  It’s one of the best kept secrets among locals that the lake never seems crowded. It’s great for fishermen, skiers, kayakers, and swimmers.  Georgetown Lake is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, which manages the entire shoreline and maintains a 26-mile trail around the lake called the Goodwater Loop. The Goodwater Loop was named by the International Mountain Biking Association as one of the world’s “Epic” rides.  Georgetown also sits near the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, which offers some amazing opportunities for hiking and camping.  The sunny weather and great outdoor life is one of the reasons Georgetown was selected as the site of the Sun City development, the largest retirement community in the United States.

Georgetown is served by the Georgetown ISD, which is a very welcoming and accomplished school district.  Georgetown High School is a National Blue Ribbon Award School.
