Great Hills is one of Austin’s most prominent neighborhoods, featuring some of Austin’s most dramatic Hill Country landscapes, most challenging golf and best shopping. Great Hills is located at the intersection of Loop 360 (Capital of Texas Highway) and Highway 183, giving residents easy access to all areas of Austin. Great Hills is a large community, served by both the Round Rock and Austin ISDs–it was developed in the 1970s and construction of new homes continued through the 2006. Great Hills provides easy access to upscale shopping and dining at two of Austin’s top shopping and entertainment destinations: The Domain and The Arboretum. The residents of Great Hills enjoy an upscale neighborhood with large homes (averaging nearly 3,000 square feet) nestled among sometimes steep hills.

Things To Do Nearby

The Great Hills neighborhood is known for its golf. The 18 hole Great Hills Country Club course features some of the most challenging golf in all of Austin and there’s an extensive practice course as well. The Country Club is a central feature of the neighborhood and many residents who aren’t golfers are also members. Great Hills’ outdoor attractions aren’t limited to golf though. The community is bordered by the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve to the west, featuring great hiking and biking opportunities. Several greenbelts are nearby as well, offering more opportunities for outdoors exploration. The Domain and the Arboretum provide (probably) more shopping and entertainment opportunities than anyone could take advantage of—from chains like Barnes and Noble and Best Buy, to the Microsoft and Apple Stores, to the luxurious iPic movie theaters, Top Golf, Austin’s famous Amy’s Ice Cream and now the popular Shake Shack.

Schools

Students of Great Hills are served by both the Round Rock Independent School District and the Austin Independent School District. For AISD, students attend Hill Elementary, Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School. For RRISD, students attend Caraway or Laurel Mountain Elementary, Canyon Vista Middle School and Westwood High School.
